AIRLINES & ROUTES
Currently the biggest carrier to Australia is Qantas,
Australia's number one
airline, in partnership with British Airways. Together they
offer the widest
choice of flights to Australia, with up to 6 daily
departures from the UK.
The global alliance between Qantas and British Airways
ensures that, between
them, they can offer you a huge number of options travelling
in either
direction around the globe.
All airlines will have their own variations of
in-flight services and seat pitch (the distance between your
seat and the
one in front). While such factors may influence your choice,
it can often be
a simple matter of which offers the best fare and
availability for the time
you wish to travel.
Alternatively, key influences could be where they stop en
route (see - Enjoy
a Stopover on the Way) and if a particular airline offers
free or low-cost
internal flights within Australia (see -
Flights within
Australia).
DEPARTURE POINTS FROM THE UK
While most airlines depart from and return to London
Heathrow, some also fly
from Manchester. If you live near a main UK regional
airport, we can often
find you low cost return flights to connect with your
international flight
from London or Manchester which may be more convenient and
cheaper than
travelling by car or train.
FLYING DIRECT
TO AUSTRALIA or NEW ZEALAND
If you only wish to spend your holiday time in Australia or
New Zealand,
Travelmood can advise you of our range of airfares flying
directly to those
countries.
This means that you fly straight to Australia or New Zealand
and straight
back at the end of your stay. (Note that all flights to
Australia or New
Zealand will need to land to re-fuel at some point on each
leg of the
journey. This usually entails a wait of about 90 minutes in
the transit
lounge of the international terminal.)
ENJOY A STOPOVER ON THE WAY
Alternatively you might be interested in the various
'stopover' options
offered by most international airlines. This is where you
can stop off for a
few days at some mid-way point on the journey (either on the
way out or on
the way back) in any one of a number of exotic countries.
Most stopovers are 'free' in that the airline does not charge you any extra for
breaking the
journey.
Travelmood can offer some excellent value two, three or
four day 'stopover' packages which can include your hotel
accommodation, sightseeing
options, and transfers from the airport and back again.
| The widest
stopover choice is offered by Qantas and British
Airways who have joint services to offer a
huge selection when travelling Down Under. This
means that they can offer an almost unlimited
choice of routes and stopovers flying both west
via the USA, or east via the Far East, even
south via South Africa! |

FLIGHTS WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Many first-time visitors to Australia do not realise just
how vast the
country is -
comparable to the size of the USA or western Europe.
Fortunately,
Australia's excellent network of internal flights is well
equipped to deal
with these large distances between the major cities and
resorts.
Qantas has an extensive flight network within Australia
which will allow you
to traverse the country to visit friends or just to see more
of this great
country.
Depending on the ticket you buy to Australia, you may find
you can have free
domestic flights or, at worst, reduced rates for buying the
tickets in the
UK. To secure the very best deal make sure you book your
internal Australian flights at the same time as your
international ticket.
