Western Canada Pioneer

11 Days Western Canada Pioneer
On foot in the Rockies

Introduction
Embark on a trip to emerald-green lakes and snowy mountain tops - an expedition into some of the most amazing scenery anywhere. As you head down trails first used by Amerindian native hunters, you will discover remote mountainous areas featuring rolling cascades, ice-age glaciers and majestic forested valleys abundant with plant and animal life. You will be transported back to this nation's pioneering era of discovery in a larger-than-life natural setting, with its bears, elk and mountain goats. This is the authentic western Canadian journey.

SULPHUR MOUNTAINS, FORESTS & LAKES
Arriving in Calgary, home to the Rodeo, the Rockies rear from the surrounding prairie like a distant tidal wave. We head a short distance into the Rockies stopping at Banff, a lively and happening place to be based for a couple of days. We ascend Sulphur Mountain by aerial tram for amazing panoramic views of the snow-capped summits and enjoy gentle walks in the picture-postcard scenery.

HOODOOS & GLACIERS
Yoho National Park is home to some of the most stunning scenery and landscapes in the country. We visit many of the park's natural wonders and also have the chance to experience an unforgettable whitewater adventure on the Kicking Horse River. Travelling north along the Icefields Parkway, we take one of the world's most scenic drives to Jasper. En route we plan to visit the Athabasca Falls and take a walk along the base of the Columbia Glacier.

WILDLIFE & HOT SPRINGS
We spend our final days in this beautiful country hiking on the local trails around Jasper National Park. This natural wilderness is the best chance we have to encounter elk, moose, wolves and hopefully, although not too close, bears. One of our walks takes us up Maligne Canyon from where we can head to the Miette hot springs which is a wonderful way to unwind before our journey back to Calgary.
