Kruger, KwaZulu and Coast

15 Days Kruger, Kwazulu and Coast
Gamelands, culture and coastal encounters

Introduction
An incredible journey covering the gamelands of Kruger National Park and Tshukudu Reserve, the remote coast of Mozambique, the Kingdom of Swaziland and the battlefields of Kwazulu-Natal. Plenty of variety and exciting activities are on offer throughout this dramatic tour through some of the most legendary areas of southern Africa with the chance for close encounters with wildlife on the way, from big cats to bottle-nosed dolphins.

MagoebAskloof and TsHukudu
From Johannesburg we travel north into the Transvaal through spectacular mountain passes to the edge of the escarpment overlooking the South African lowveld. Our first stop is Magoebaskloof, home of the rain queen “Modjadji” - made famous by Ryder Haggard's book “She”. We have time here to try lots of exciting optional activities before moving on to Tshukudu game reserve for our first opportunity to search for the “Big Five”. We can get an even closer encounter with a visit to the lion and cheetah wildlife rehabilitation centre and breeding projects.

Kruger and Mlilwane
Taking in the awesome Blyde River Canyon and Pilgrim's Rest en route, we reach Kruger, arguably South Africa's greatest reserve. The huge gamelands here are the size of Israel and are home to most of Africa's animal species (including the “Big Five”) as well as excellent birdlife. We'll make extensive game drives hoping to see rhino, lion, cheetah, giraffe and elephant. From Kruger, we continue to the Kingdom of Swaziland where we stay at the wildlife sanctuary of Mlilwane. Antelope walk freely amongst the grass-huts and it is possible to walk anywhere in the sanctuary. There's more time here for optional activities and also the chance to visit a local school to gain an insight into the very traditional Swazi kingdom.

Mozambique, Kwazulu-Natal and Dundee
Undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip is our stay at the remote coastal area of Ponto-do-Ouro in Southern Mozambique where we have the remarkable opportunity to take a boat launch and interact with bottle-nosed dolphins in their natural habitat. Simply being with these mammals is a truly magical experience. There is also time for relaxing on the beach and for visiting an elephant park before we head back into South Africa and travel through Zululand. Here we learn much of this proud culture and even have dinner at a traditional village where we can swap stories and ideas with these wonderful people. Our final highlight before returning to Johannesburg is at Dundee, where we take a guided tour of the famous battle-fields of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift to learn more about the history brought so vividly to life in the film “Zulu”.
