Introduction
Sri Lanka is a small country but has an incredible wealth of attractions. There are stunning white sandy beaches, wild elephants roaming the jungles, huge Buddhas carved out of the rock, delicious tropical fruits and local cuisine and wonderfully friendly people. It is not difficult to see why this island is called the Pearl of the Indian ocean!
Day 1, NEGOMBO Arrive and transfer to hotel, which has a pool.

Day 2, NEGOMBO - POLONNARUWA We start our day with a visit to an elephant orphanage where you have the chance to watch the elephants bathe in the river. After this, drive north to Polonnaruwa, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka and have a cycle tour around the site, with its huge carved Buddhas. Later we head into the countryside for a jeep safari and look for wild elephants. We spend the night camping under the stars. (B)

Day 3, POLONNARUWA - SIGIRIYA Drive to Sigiriya, stopping along the way for a ride on an elephant. At Sigiriya we climb to the top of 'Lion's rock' to see the old city and get amazing views over the plains. We spend the night in a hotel with a pool. (B)

Day 4, SIGIRIYA - KANDY We head for Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka. Along the way we visit the Dambulla cave complex, with its amazing Buddhist sculptures and paintings. In the evening we see a cultural performance which includes people walking on red hot coals! Overnight in a hotel with a pool. (B)

Day 5, KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA A city tour of Kandy before leaving for Nuwara Eliya, in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea producing area. We visit a tea plantation to get an idea of how tea is made. (B)

Day 6, NUWARA ELIYA A full day to explore the stunningly beautiful Horton Plains area. We walk to World's End, a sheer precipice where the ground falls away 1,000m below you to the plains. (B)

Day 7, NUWARA ELIYA - UDA WALAWE Visit the Uda Walawe Nature reserve where we take a jeep safari to search for elephants and other wild animals. We stop for lunch with a local family in a village. Overnight in a hotel with a pool. (B)

Day 8, UDA WALAWE - INDIAN OCEAN COAST Drive to the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka where we spend three nights at a hotel right on the beach, with its own pool. (B)

Days 9-10, INDIAN OCEAN COAST Two full days to relax on the beach, swim in the warm waters or perhaps try your hand at one of the many water sports available here. There are opportunities for windsurfing, jet skiing, water skiing and just about any other watersport you can think of ! (B)
