Getting Around
Despite giving the appearance of great space and distance, New Zealand is surprisingly compact - just 1000 miles from the tip of the North Island to the toe of the South Island, and only 280 miles at its widest point. This means that it's easy to get from one place to another. Roads, rail, ferry and air services are first class and good value. Self drive, either by car or campervan, is a popular option with UK visitors who will be quite at home driving on the left on uncrowded roads through gorgeous scenery.
