Take in an elephant orphanage on route to the fascinating and historic city of Kandy, then wind into Nuwara Eliya for Sri Lanka's beautiful tea plantations - learn about the tea making process and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Itinerary

• Day 1 - Beach to Kandy

  Pick up from Kalutara, Wadduwa or Negombo and transfer to Pinnawala. Visit a spice garden and the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a conservation and educational centre that now has over 80 elephants. Watch the elephants in their bathing time in a nearby river.

  Accommodation - Chaaya Citadel Kandy Dinner

• Day 2 - Kandy

  After breakfast visit Kandy town and bazaar, the arts & crafts centre, a gem museum and the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic. Kandy itself is beautifully historic and traditional, a World Heritage Site and the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. Visit the extensive Peradeniya botanical garden in the afternoon, and witness a cultural show in the evening.

• Day 3 - Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

  After breakfast depart for Nuwara Eliya to observe the process of manufacturing tea. Decide for yourself if this is the best tea in the world with a cup of Ceylon's finest. Rest of the day at leisure.

• Day 4 - Nuwara Eliya to beach

  Transfer from Nuwara Eliya to your chosen beach hotel, via Kitulgala. The Kelani River (where the Oscar winning 'Bridge on the River Kwai' was filmed) flows through Kitulgala, making it a lush and beautiful area.
