Day 1 Arrive Johannesburg
You’ll be met by your guide at the airport to
begin the Best Of South Africa Tour! First stop
is a fascinating visit to the bustling township
of Soweto. Visit the informative Apartheid
Museum – dedicated to recounting the rise
and fall of apartheid in the 20th Century.
Afternoon city tour of cosmopolitan
Johannesburg.

Picnic at Hippo Hollow Country Estate
Day 2 Blyde River Canyon
Head east to the Mpumalanga region and the
scenic ‘Panorama Route’. Discover the
fabulous sites of the Blyde River Canyon. With
a depth of up to 800 metres this is the third
largest canyon in the world. You’ll be taken to
some amazing viewpoints along the edge of
the escarpment. In the same area see the
curious Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

Day 3 Kruger National Park
A full day safari in the southernmost part of
Kruger National Park. At sunrise you might
have the opportunity to glimpse a lion or
leopard, or massive rhinos, elephants or a
troupe of buffalo searching for new pastures.
Continue your safari into the afternoon where
you might see certain rare species like the
sable antelope. This famous park is enormous
and although you can only see a small part of
it in a day, it may well be one of the highlights
of your trip.

Day 4 Cheetah Project
Visit the Cheetah Project at Kapama. This is a
breeding centre founded to ensure the survival
of the species. Weaker than the leopard and
the lion, this magnificent feline also needs
wide open spaces in order to survive and is
fast disappearing in its natural habitat.
Includes a game drive in a 4WD vehicle at
Kapama private game reserve.

Blyde River Canyon
Day 5 Sudwala Caves and flight
Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth
The Sudwala Caves are the oldest known
caves in the world, and as such, are a ‘mustsee'
on the itinerary of any visitor to
Mpumalanga. Their depth is such that the
caves have never been completely explored.
These incredible caverns lie in the
Drakensberg escarpment which separates the
Highveld from the lowlands of Mpumalanga.
Return to Johannesburg Airport and fly (own
expense, your Travelmood consultant can
arrange this for you) to Port Elizabeth Airport.
Met on arrival and transferred to your
accommodation for the night in Port Elizabeth.

Day 6 The Garden Route
Today head west from Port Elizabeth to the
beautiful Garden Route region. First stop is at
Tsitsikamma National Park, a magical place of
deep ravines, cool rivers, forests and a
magnificent rugged coastline. Continue on to
nearby Plettenberg Bay. ‘Plett’ is one of South
Africa’s favourite beach resorts and features
two superb sandy beaches. The charming town
of Knysna has a great location on the shores
of a lagoon and backed by lush, indigenous
forests. Overnight in the small, beach resort
of Wilderness.

Day 7 Mossel Bay
Visit Mossel Bay where the first European in
South Africa, Bartolomeu Diaz, set foot in
1488. Don’t miss the wonderful lifesize model
of his ship. Discover the post tree. Navigators
of the XVIth century left their mail under its
thick branches so that passing ships could
forward them to the addresses. Mossel Bay is
a working harbour and offers a great choice of
superb seafood restaurants for lunch.

Day 8 Oudtshoorn
Leave the coastline behind and head north
through the Outeniqua Mountains to
Oudtshoorn, the ‘Feather Capital’ of the world.
Visit an ostrich farm where, if you’re brave you
can risk riding this bird capable of running
faster than 60km an hour! A racing demonstration will be given by the professional
riders. Visit the Cango Caves, 80 caverns that
follow one another for more than 3kms. This
cave complex is considered to be one of the
biggest in the world.

Day 9 Winelands
Cross over the magnificent landscapes of the
Small Karoo. Very old mountainous formations
separate a semi-desert savannah from the
Garden Route, a mere 50kms to the south.
Visit the wineland town of Franschoek, a
historical location with a French Quarter and a
wonderful choice of vineyards in beautiful leafy
locations. Continue on to nearby Stellenbosch;
arguably as scenic as Franschoek and steeped
in history.

Day 10 Cape Town
Morning tour of Stellenbosch and wine tasting
at Spier Wine Estate. You’ll have the
opportunity to taste five different wines. After
lunch continue to Cape Town; one of the
world’s most spectacularly located cities. Visit
the SA Museum, the Malay Quarter; the Bo-
Kaap, with its pastel coloured houses nestling
at the foot of Table Mountain. Take in the
spectacular views of the city, the harbour and
Robben Island from Signal Hill.

Day 11 Cape of Good Hope
Enjoy a half day tour to the Cape of Good
Hope. En route stop at the fishing village of
Hout Bay and take a boat trip to ‘Seal Island’
where you’ll see hundreds of seals playing together in the cold waters of the Atlantic
Ocean. Visit the mythical meeting place of the
two great oceans at Cape Point. The renowned
navigator Sir Francis Drake considered this to
be the most beautiful cape on earth. In the
afternoon discover the Victoria and Alfred
Waterfront. The old docks of Cape Town have
been transformed into a vibrant entertainment
and cultural centre.

Day 12 Kirstenbosch Gardens & Constantia
The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are
considered to be one of the richest in the
world and feature a spectacular setting at the
foot of the mountains. Visit the winelands of
Groot Constantia and discover the excellent
dessert wines and Cape Dutch architecture.

Day 13 Depart Cape Town
Transfer to Cape Town Airport to complete your
memorable tour of South Africa.
