Day 1 Arrive Windhoek
175 miles 3.30 hours
Met by your guide at the airport and begin your
Best Of Namibia Tour! Cross Okahandja, the
small town on the banks of the Swakop river.
Visit the artisan market which specialises in
wooden sculptures, made from wood
originating from Northern Namibia. Arrive at
Epako Game Lodge, Omaruru. Epako is a
luxurious 11,000 hectare game lodge situated
in beautiful mountainous surroundings – a
good half way stop en route to Etosha.

Day 2 Etosha
Up early for a morning nature game drive by
open vehicle 4WD. This is the best time to
view the animals which have not yet been
exhausted by the sun. This reserve features a wide variety of animals including Giraffe,
Elephant, Rhinos, Cheetahs, Leopards, Gnus
(blue and black), Impalas, Springbok,
Waterbuck, Eland, Hartebeest, Zebras,
Ostriches, Klipspringer, Dik-diks, Steenboks,
Kudus, Oryx, Caracals and Jackals. Continue
the tour heading north with a stop at Otjikoto
Lake; Namibia’s largest natural permanent
lake. Stay the night at 3-star Mokuti Lodge
situated on the Etosha National Park’s eastern
border.

Day 3 Etosha National Park
A full day in Namibia’s most famous National
Park. Crossing the park from east to west
you’ll witness some of the rich variety of
animals and range of bird species of this area
which was formed from an ancient salt lake
and proclaimed in 1907. Overnight at Etosha
Gateway Lodge, a homely retreat nestled
under an outcrop of dolomite rocks and
beneath a forest of Mopanie and White
Seringa trees.

Day 4 Petrified Forest
Discover the Vingerklip, a rock finger that is 35
metres high after being subjected to centuries
of erosion. Visit the Petrified Forest, composed
of gigantic tree trunks, transported by floods
and covered in mud. In time they turned to
stone and some are 30 metres long. Continue
on to the Twyfelfontein area; a very vulnerable
and delicate ecosystem, renowned for some of
the best examples of Bushman paintings and
rock engravings in southern Africa. Interesting
rock formations and the remainder of prehistoric volcanic action can be seen among
the most prominent geographic features.

Day 5 Swakopmund
Today we head west to the coastline of
Namibia and the country’s foremost seaside
resort. Enjoy a tour of Swakopmund: the 1910
lighthouse, the old post office and the jetty.
Swakopmund retains much of its German
heritage and this can be seen in the
architecture of the city. Overnight at the
Swakopmund Hotel a beautiful property built in
and around the old station building.

Day 6 Dolphin Cruise
Visit nearby Walvis Bay to join a cruise to
Pelican Point. On the far side of the lagoon
normally inhabited with pink flamingos and
pelicans, discover the seal colony and, a bit
further out, watch the dolphins playing in and
around the boat. Afternoon at leisure in
Swakopmund. Relax by the hotel pool, take a
walk on the sandy beach or shop for artefacts.

Day 7 Sossusvlei
Discover the Welwitchia Mirabilis, a botanical
curiosity which is found almost exclusively in
the fog belt of the Namib desert. Continue on
to the spectacular vistas of the Moon
Landscape area. Travel via the impressive
Kuiseb Canyon which marks the frontier
between the vast rocky plains of the north and
sea of sand which meets up with the Orange
river. Overnight at the Namib Desert Lodge,
nestled at the foot of the fossilised dunes of
the Namib desert. Sit on your private verandah
and enjoy the spectacular desert sunset
Admire Gemsbok and Springbok which
frequent the illuminated watering place after
sunset.

Day 8 Sossusvlei
Discover Dead Vlei (Dried-up Lake), a
spectacle to marvel at where only a few dead
trees remain, surrounded by dunes. Visit
Sossusvlei which boasts the highest dunes in
the world (higher than 300 metres) in the
oldest desert on the planet, the Namib. A
4WD will transfer you over the last 5kms to
Sossusvlei. After lunch discover the Sesriem
Canyon, formed by the Tsauchab river which
has eroded a gorge some 50 metres deep.

Day 9 Windhoek
Return to the capital city of Windhoek. At an
altitude of 1654 metres this city is the heart
and soul of the country. The Germans arrived
in 1890 and the city grew around an old Fort
and Ink Palace which looks out over the city.
The dispersed outskirts have succeeded in
giving Windhoek a tranquil atmosphere.

Day 10 Depart Windhoek
Time at leisure, perhaps some shopping
before a transfer to the airport to complete
your tour.
