  Tasmania Visitor Information

Why should I visit Tasmania now?
Tasmania takes all of the best features of Australia and offers them in a compact, accessible and scenically spectacular island. Just a one hour flight from mainland Australia but offering World Heritage wilderness. Cradle Mountain towers above the calm waters of Dove Lake, ancient rainforest surrounds the Gordon River and Freycinet’s sunny beaches are overlooked by granite mountains.

Ferry crossing from the mainland
The Spirit of Tasmania ferry service departs Melbourne nightly at 9pm arriving into Devonport at 7am the following day. Prices start from £60 for seat only or £94 each for a berth in a 4 bunk inside cabin. Ask your Travelmood consultant for details

Airport Information
Hobart Airport is located 14 miles from Hobart. Journey time is about 20 minutes. There is a bus service linking the airport and city, while a taxi will cost about $25-30 each way. Travelmood can pre-book airport transfers from £28 per person per way.

When should I go?
Tasmania has a temperate, maritime climate with four distinctly different seasons. Summer temperatures (December to February) average a comfortable 22°c and in winter (June to August) around 12°c. Spring and autumn are warm, but bring extra clothing for the evenings. Tasmania’s summers are wonderfully long - at midsummer daylight lasts more than 15 hours.

What should I do on a shorter itinerary?
