6 day SW Wanderer

This self drive tour explores the delightfully picturesque south west corner of Western Australia, centred around the Margaret River region.This is home to some truly gorgeous beaches and vineyards which produce top quality wine. Further south and along the coast are national parks known for towering Karri forests and carpets of wild flowers.

Day 1 Perth to Albany
260 miles 4½ hours
Head south from Perth on the Albany Highway, stopping en route at the stunning Stirling Range National Park. Albany offers a wide range of cosmopolitan restaurants and a selection of wines from nearby wineries. Overnight at Comfort Inn Albany.



When you're in Albany, climb Bluff Knoll in Stirling National Park, a 3 - 4 hour walk.



Day 2 Albany to Denmark
38 miles ¾ hour
Just a short drive between these two towns with plenty of time to explore the natural attractions of the region. Visit the Natural Bridge and perhaps drive to the top of Mt Clarence for a panoramic view. Overnight at Chimes Spa Retreat (includes breakfast).


Day 3 Denmark to Walpole
42 miles ¾ hour
Take the Ocean Road to some fabulous swimming beaches. Make a stop at the world famous Tree Top Walk, a suspension system that allows you to walk above the forest. Overnight at Tree Top Walk Motel.

Day 4 Walpole to Margaret River
180 miles 3½ hours
Drive through a forest area featuring trees that rival the Redwoods of California for size and grandeur. Visit the towns of Pemberton and Augusta before arriving at Margaret River. Overnight for 2 nights at Comfort Inn Grange on Farrelly.



In Margaret River upgrade to the 5 star Quay West Resort, along stunning Bunker Bay from £37 per night.




Day 5 Margaret River
Full day to enjoy the beaches and wineries in this region renown for its award winning wines. The Margaret River accounts for about 15% of Australia’s premium wine, and there are around 60 boutique wineries that welcome visitors for tours and tastings. Some have their own vineyard restaurants serving gourmet local produce to accompany their fine vintages.


Day 6 Margaret River to Perth
176 miles 3½ hours
Take the Caves Road towards Yallingup and Dunsborough. The driving time from Margaret River back to Perth, via the attractive towns of Busselton and Bunbury, is just over 3 hours - leaving plenty of time to explore the area.
