| For many people, the Northern Territory is the very essence of Australia. The vast red-gold desert of the Red Centre contrasts with the wetlands, which teem with the native wildlife of the the Top End. |

Northern Territory Visitor Information
Why should I visit The Northern Territory now?
The Northern Territory is an enormous area of dramatic
landscape, roughly the size of Spain, France and Italy
combined. Darwin, the capital is the gateway to World
Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, just a three hour
drive from the city. Alice Springs, Australia’s most
famous outback town in the heart of Central Australia is
the gateway to adventurous activities. Just a short
flight from Alice is one of Australia’s most famous
icons, Uluru/Ayers Rock.
Airport Information
Darwin Airport is 8 miles north-east of the city centre.
A taxi is $22 for the 20 minute drive. Alice Springs
Airport is located 9 miles south of the city. A taxi is
$28 for the 15 minute drive. Travelmood can pre-book
transfers from Darwin (£6 per person each way) and Alice
Springs (£13 per person each way). Ayers Rock Airport is
just 3.5 miles from Ayers Rock Resort. A free transfer
is included for stays at Ayers Rock Resort hotels.
When should I go?
Ayers Rock and Alice Springs have desert climates.
Autumn and Spring will give you sunny days with
cloudless skies and cool, crisp nights. December to
February are the hottest months with temperatures
reaching 39°c. The cooler winter months of May to
September see temperatures at a more comfortable maximum
of 20°c but mornings can be cold. Darwin has two
seasons; tropical summer during November to April and
tropical winter from May to October. It’s warm all year
round, but summer is wetter and winter is dry. Winter is
ideal for outdoor adventures and touring.
What should I do on a shorter itinerary?
Experience one of the Northern Territory’s two biggest
attractions; Kakadu or Ayers Rock. We offer a 5 Day
Kakadu Hot Deal from Darwin which includes a 2
day 4WD tour of Kakadu’s famous sights. A 3 Day
Ayers Rock Hot Deal includes time at Ayers Rock as
well as the equally impressive Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).
And a longer one?
To really experience the outback scenery of the Northern
Territory consider combining the 6 Day Best of the Top
End Self Drive, exploring Kakadu and Katherine with a 4
Day Best of the Red Centre Self
Drive which starts at Alice Springs
and finishes at Ayers Rock. Your
Travelmood consultant can arrange
flights between Darwin and Alice
Springs, and onward flights from
Ayers Rock.
