Koh Samui is Thailand's third largest island, though smaller, quieter and less developed than Phuket. The island is 13 miles at its widest point and only 16 miles in length. Life is lived at a gentle pace and although the main beach resort at Chaweng now boasts a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, much of the rest of the island is quiet and unspoilt.
