The Elephant Camp
An elephant drive at sunrise. A dip in the river.
Treks through bamboo groves and rice paddy and
a glimpse of life in a Mahout’s village.
The Elephant Camp at Anantara is designed along
the lines of the traditional Mahout (elephant
trainer) villages found in the hills of Northern
Thailand in the days when logging employed the
majority of Thailand’s elephants.
Based on the professional mahout training course,
run at the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre,
this course, spread over three days, is designed
to ensure you get to know your elephant and can
perform the routine daily tasks of a Mahout. Learn
to bathe, feed and care for an elephant. Pick up
some elephant commands and explore the
forests of Northern Thailand with your new friend.
