Day 1 Melbourne to the Yarra Valley
40 miles 1 hours
Collect your car from Avis at either the
Melbourne airport or downtown depot. Drive to
the Yarra Valley. Overnight for 2 nights at

Day 3
Yarra Valley to Walhalla
105 miles 2½ hours
Continue on to Walhalla, a small gold town
(population 23!) in the Victorian Alps. Walhalla's
ghost town appeal is evident in the 3 original
old shops, post office and museum. Behind
restored facades these buildings conceal dim
and mysterious interiors. Electricity has only
recently arrived in town, another indication of
its relative isolation. Check in to Walhalla's Star
Hotel, a boutique 4 star in this unique town.
Meet the locals in this wonderfully different

Day 4
Walhalla to Phillip Island
110 miles 2½ hours
Phillip Island is home to the famous little
penguins, which emerge from the sea every
evening and waddle to their burrows in the
sand dunes. There is also the Koala
Conservation Park with a treetop boardwalk for
close up viewing. The rugged southern coastline
of the Island faces Bass Strait and offers some
of the best surf beaches in Victoria, while the
protected northern beaches nestle into
Westernport Bay and provide excellent areas
for swimming, sailing, boating and fishing.

Day 5
Phillip Island to Mornington Peninsula
70 miles 1¾ hours
The Mornington Peninsula is a lovely seaside

Day 6
Mornington Peninsula to Melbourne
50 miles 1 hours
On the short drive back to Melbourne drive
through this area rich in natural beauty, passing
gently rolling hills and sparkling bay beaches.
