The Islands
Mykonos...is one of the most
popular holiday resorts both in
Greece and in the world, famous
for its chalk-white beauty and its
vibrant night life. The capital,
HORA, with its colourful harbour
in which little fishing boats nestle
happily side by side with luxury
yachts, presents quite a different
picture from the majority of
Aegean island towns. It is well known for location shots
during the shooting of the movie
Shirley Valentine.
Ios...Planted in the heart of the
Cyclades, small but a
true beauty, Ios is a popular party
island with an exciting nightlife. The coastline of this predominantly
mountainous island with its countless chapels, its olive trees
and vineyards is adorned with small, attractive coves. Those
features combine with crystal clear sea and superb sandy beaches.
Paros...though one of
the most popular holiday
destinations, Paros remains
stubbornly Greek. Paros is essentially a summer
destination and as the
Windsurfing capital of Greece, it
has some of the best beaches and
most charming villages to be
found anywhere in the Greek
islands.
Naxos...Naxos is the largest and the
greenest of the Cyclades. What strikes you is the
liveliness of the place. A fun fair
can be in town or a street festival
under way - this place is never
dull. With miles of white sand beaches,
the beaches of Naxos are
considered to be the best in the
Cyclades and of the best in the
Mediterranean.
Santorini...Santorini, also know as Thira, is
widely considered to be Greece's
most spectacular island. The
island is actually three islands that
remained from a volcanic eruption that occurred
around 1640 BC. Domed churches,
sun-bathed terraces, stepped
alleys and the threatening
volcano form a unique picture
of the island. Wine-lovers can visit some of the
numerous vineyards on the island
and enjoy free wine tasting with
spectacular views of the volcano.
