Trip Itinerary
Day 1 Marrakech (Casablanca)
Welcome to Marrakech, the town where the Arab culture of the cities meets the Berber culture of the mountain villages; where the weary sub-Saharan traders (carrying gold, salt and slaves) would ply their wares to the merchants who would then bring them to Europe. The tour starts originally in Marrakech, but if you arrive in Casablanca, free transfer to Marrakech will be available from the pre-accommodation hotel in Casablanca. This evening our tour leader will brief us about the next days of our journey. Optional dinner is available to get to know your travel mates better. Overnight stay in Marrakech. If you arrive in Casablanca, please bear in mind that complimentary transfer from Casablanca to Marrakech will be available. Please contact us for details.
Day 2 Marrakech, Essaouira
After breakfast we’ll start discovering Marrakech. We’ll visit Menara Gardens, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tumbs, Bahia Palace before heading our way to Essaouira, the most popular winds-surfing destination by the Atlantic Ocean. Essaouira is still quite, friendly and charming. Tall white houses, yellow details and blue doors, narrow streets and the ramparts that protect most of the town... This evening we’ll stay overnight in Essaouira.
Day 3 Essaouira
Free day in this unique town. Today you can practice wind surfing, relax on the beaches, lose your way in the medina with its narrow lanes, white washed houses, tranquil squares, pleasant cafes and artisans in tiny workshops. Tasting grilled sardines and fish at the Essaouira port can be also a nice experience.
Day 4 Essaouira, Taroudant
After a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast through “Argane Trees Forests” and “Bananas Plantations”, we’ll arrive in Taroudant, a Berber market town located on the fertile Souss Valley, an important spot in the Trans Sahara caravan routes. We’ll visit the ramparts of this interesting town, the main “souk” which is a spot for Berber jewellery before checking into our hotel.
Day 5 Taroudant, Taliouine, Tazenakht, Agdz, M’hamid
A long day is awaiting us. Today we’ll drive along the Oasis, palmeraies, Berber villages and kasbahs through the High Atlas mountains until we reach M’hamid. We’ll pass by Taliouine, the city enclosed by medieval walls which look best at dusk, when the gold, pink and orange colors are brought out by the setting sun and then by Tazenakht and Agdz until we reach M’hamid. Thevillage of M’hamid is very modest by all standards and reflects the original desert & traditional life of Morocco. The village is located at the edge of Sahara and “52 days by camel to Tombouctou”. This evening we’ll stay in sedentary tents representing the real local life of the Sahara. Dinner is included.
Day 6 M’hamid, Chigaga
Today we’ll experience another impressive day at the Moroccan desert. In the morning we’ll join a 4x4 jeep safari through the magnificent sand dunes. Today we may have the opportunity to visit one of the nomad families who live in hand-woven goat hair tents. We’ll also have lunch at the Oasis. Then we’ll continue to Chigaga, a 40 km-long stretch of huge 300 m high saharian dunes, through the arid plains and sands. In the evening we’ll check into our nomad tent camp, based at the largest dunes called “ocean without water” and have dinner under the desert stars. This is an awesome experience: to watch the desert change colour under the sunset, watching a billion stars in the night sky, or the quiet of the desert before the sun comes up...
Day 7 Chigaga, Zagora, Marrakech
Early in the morning we’ll depart from Chigaga to M’hamid in our 4x4 jeeps and drive through the impressive Sahara. Then we’ll continue to Marrakech via the magnificent Draaa Valley, home of one of the longest rivers in Morocco. Faltire palmeraies of Draa are crammed with date palms, olive and almond trees. The scenery along the river is a highlight for the photographers. In the afternoon we will have free time to visit Djemaa el Fna Square in Marrakech full with story tellers, snake charmers, acrobats, musicians, folklore dancers. Overnight stay in Marrakech.
Day 8 Marrakech/Casablanca
Our trip will end after breakfast in Marrakech. Free transfer is also available for those who’ve started the tour in Casablanca.
